According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 20% of Americans have a disability. Similar statistics obtain in every industrialized nation worldwide. Current U.S. projections indicate that the population level of those with disabilities "severe enough to impair their activities" will grow to about TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT by the year 2020. 	Ability Ministry The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for Christian service providers that minister to persons with developmental disabilities. This could include anyone from Sunday School Teachers to Social Workers. The perspective that I come from has developed from two systems. The first system is the 10 years of experience that I have doing direct care (7 years) and community job placement (3 years). This system has taught me much about the programs of Vocational Rehabilitation as well as individualized direct care in group home settings. The second system has been my training in Biblical Counseling. My goal for this blog is to unite these two systems together... into a Biblical approach to counseling and serving the multiple needs of those with developmental disabilities.
